Spanish construction activity returns to marginal growth

The Spanish construction activity last year showed evidence of a marginal recovery after four years of contraction, Kallanish learns from the data issued by the local association Seopan.

According to the figures published, the countrys construction activity increased 0.3% y-o-y in 2017, generating a turnover of €4.3 billion ($5.3 billion). The sector was supported mainly by the activity in residential construction, recovering over 40% y-o-y, while the turnover for civil engineering projects continued to fall year-on-year by -2%.

Looking ahead, Seopan welcomes the announcement by the Spanish government to boost investment in public construction projects by almost 14% y-o-y this year. It notes nevertheless that public spending remains close to only a third of what it was in 2007.
